Programme Overview

The Master’s in Advanced Cyber Security equips students with advanced knowledge and practical skills to protect data, systems, and networks from cyber threats. Developed with industry input and aligned with NCSC and CyBok standards, the course focuses on three core areas: offensive security, defensive security, and information security governance. Graduates will be prepared to use industry-standard tools and frameworks to develop secure systems and manage cyber risks effectively.

  • Information Security – Risks, threats, and management principles.
  • Human-Centred Security – Usability, behaviour, and awareness.
  • Forensics – Digital evidence and system analysis.
  • Secure Systems and Software – Designing and developing secure systems.
  • Network Security – Internet protocols, vulnerabilities, and defences.
  • Applied Cryptography – Cryptographic models and protocols.
  • Research & Professional Practice – Research skills for the dissertation.

Teaching & Learning

Learning will be facilitated through a variety of methods, which may include lectures, seminars, lab, workshops, online activities and group work. Students are expected to engage in both class and online activities and discussions. This programme also requires students to participate in additional guided reading and self-directed study to reinforce the learning gained from timetabled sessions. Formative assessment will be used to prepare students for summative assessment and give students an early indication of their progress towards the course intended learning outcomes.

Entry Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree, BAC+3, Licence from a recognised University with a GPA 2.7/4.0 or GPA 3.5/5.0 or any other equivalent of a UK 2:2 classification
  • Online Placement test B2 level, IELTS score 6.0, or equivalent or a successful completion of a recognised foundation year.
